BREWER'S SPARROW CO-216
Shortgrass Prairie of eastern Colorado, Pawnee National Grassland, Briggsdale, Colorado
May 27, 5:05 a.m.
Sunrise at 5:26 a.m.
Six and a half minutes in the dawn life of a second Brewer's sparrow, the neighbor of the male in CO-215. He carries on like this for three quarters of an hour every morning for weeks on end.
Listening to the songs of the Brewer's sparrow at dawn (CO-215, CO-216) and througout the day (ID-219, ID-220), one can hardly believe they're the same species.
Background
Lark bunting, common nighthawk booms (10 throughout, 0:16, 0:42, and more to 6:22; again, peent calls are too distant to hear), western meadowlark, horned lark, other Brewer's sparrows, cattle
