EASTERN WHIP-POOR-WILL VA-37
Shenandoah Valley: Camp Bethel, Fincastle, Virginia
May 10, 5:30 a.m.
Sunrise at 6:13 a.m.
An eastern whip-poor-will in good form, jarring the early morning with his relentless tk-WHIP-poor-WILL. He sings each second, at the rapid-fire pace of nearly 60 songs a minute, one after the other, each one just like the others.
Background
A great crested flycatcher in dawn song, and a northern cardinal awaking, both heard best at a lull in the nightjar's singing (at 0:20).
